Wells Lit Fest

One thing we were really excited about when we were booking speakers for this Wells Lit Fest is three of the speakers that we booked were then nominated for the Costa Prize: Louisa Young for her novel My Dear I wanted to tell you, Matthew Hollis for his biography of the poet Edward Thomas, All Roads Lead to France and Andrew Miller for his novel Pure. We were very excited that both Hollis and Miller one the prizes for their category and absolutely thrilled that “our” Andrew Miller, of Somerset, won the overall prize for the best book in any category.

Pure is an incredible book which takes you right into the world of pre-revolutionary France, and in particular into the shadow of a graveyard which is being exhumed. Miller creates extraordinarily vivid scenes with utterly convincing characters. It is literary fiction at its best. The book is beautifully written, and at the same time absolutely compelling.

On Saturday October 13th Andrew will in conversation with the Channel Four journalist Jonathan Rugman at Wells Town Hall at 8 pm. Jonathan has first hand experience of modern revolutions and is a very skilled interviewer. Andrew is a very interesting speaker who teaches and lectures about creative writing for Bath Spa University and the Guardian masterclasses. This will be a master class not to miss.
